Community Development
The Community Development Programs emphasize a capacity building framework in which we work in partnership with individuals as they work towards uncovering and developing their gifts in a non-threatening environment. We aim to work in a holistic manner, seeking to enhance individuals’ physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual lives. This includes small group learning and community building opportunities, as well as, our Community Advocacy program.Current Community Development small group programs include:
Celebrate Recovery - A weekly 12-step recovery program for a variety of hurts, habits and hang-ups starting May 7, 2010.
Community Kitchen (biweekly) - Provides an opportunity for a group of people to get together plan and cook affordable nutritious meals, as well as, learn about different cooking techniques and skills. By cooking together and sharing food, time and money are saved and relationships are built.
Go-Getters & Helping Hands (weekly) - Provides an opportunity for community members to meet and build relationships with staff, volunteers and other community members. All while gaining work and volunteer experience by helping us sort through and organize the large amounts of donations that we receive on a weekly basis.
Literacy Tutoring (weekly) - Done in partnership with Project Adult Literacy Society (P.A.L.S) and is one-on-one tutoring that allows people to improve their reading and writing skills in a safe and non-judgmental environment.
Baseball Team (weekly from May to mid August) – We play in the Edmonton Lutheran Mixed Slo-Pitch League with other churches across Edmonton.
